Ripon Amateur Operatic Society are all set for their autumn concert, A Celebration of Richard Rodgers which runs next week, October 4 and 5.
The talented society, who scooped a total of six awards at this year’s Wharfedale Festival of Theatre for their performance of Billy in April, including Outstanding Production and Best Actor, will be performing a selection of well known music from the works of the famous composer.
This year the society have decided on a change of venue and are excited to be performing for the first time at Holy Trinity Church, Ripon which has, throughout recent years, been converted into a modern and comfortable performance space within the city centre. The programme, which starts at 7.30pm, will consist of lively chorus numbers as well as solos and pieces performed by smaller groups. Members of the Ripon Youth Theatre will also be joining the cast.
Favourites from Oklahoma, The King & I, Sound of Music, South Pacific and Carousel will be interspersed with jazz numbers such as My Funny Valentine, Manhattan and Blue Moon.
The programme will be linked by an engaging narration giving the audience insight into some of the great composer’s history.
Tickets are available from Alan’s Gallery, Kirkgate, Ripon, 01765 690498 and Pomp & Circumstance, Commercial Street, Harrogate, 01423 504035 or on the door.
