Ripon Choral Society is so looking forward to the Grand Depart, it’s not only presenting a Tour de France concert next month, its chairman is also riding the tour route himself for charity.
Part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014 which heralds the visit to the region of the Tour de France in July, society chairman Andrew Hill is marking the occasion by cycling the entire route of the first day of Le Tour, then, theoretically, getting back to Ripon Cathedral that evening in time to sing!
The concert takes place on Saturday, June 21 at 7.30pm with conductor John Dunford and soloists Katy Kelly (soprano), Clemmie Franks (alto), Tom Morss (tenor) and Tim Murphy (bass).
When the rest of the musical singers will still be in bed on the day of the show, Andrew will be riding at 6am with three friends, Tim, Martin and Luke raise funds for the NSPCC and the society itself.
If he’s back in time (!), the evening’s programme will include the Magnificat by J.S. Bach, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Poulenc’s Organ Concerto played by the choral society’s accompanist Greg Smith.
