At last – a Tour de France event that is genuinely leftfield. The Tidswell Noise Collective will perform CYCLE: A Sonic Safari at Orb Community Arts Centre on Friday, July 4.

Combining film with music performed on retro-futuristic bicycles, this improvisational group of musician will be presenting their Dada-esque event from 7.30pm at Orb at the Elephant & Castle Yard behind Frazer Theatre.

You can also catch them live at Feva in August.

The weekend’s Le Grand Depart has inspired a whole host of live gigs across the district - I have space for a few.

Knaresborough’s celebrations include a show at Frazer Theatre by ace singer/storyteller Richard Digance tomorrow, Friday, presented by promoters Frazer Theatre Music.

Ripon has covers duo Sounds Like Us at The One Eyed Rat tomorrow, Friday.

RipleyBlues have their own free Tour de France special at Ripley Castle from mid-day on Saturday with a movie, food and drink and live music from Area 40, Doghouse Doctors and The Travis Riley Band.

The official Tour de France Fan Park at West Park Stray has free live music every night from today to Sunday including ex-AMP Awards winners Purple Mafia at 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday and DJ Rory Hoy at 4.45pm approx on Saturday - not long after the cyclists sprint past at the end of Stage One - plus lots of other local musicians.
