Musicians from Harrogate Festival Orchestra serenaded shoppers in Harrogate town centre this afternoon.
Music was in the air as musicians popped up in unlikely locations across the town centre including Harrogate bus station and outside of Bettys.
Unsuspecting audiences heard the sounds of Mozart (String quartet no. 4 in c major, k.157) and Harrogate composer, Finzi (Interlude for oboe and string quartet, op. 21), to celebrate the countdown to summer and the 50th Harrogate Festival.
The Town Centre Box Office situated on the Victoria Centre Piazza opens tomorrow, Saturday 20 June, through to the end of July, (open Tuesday – Sunday excl. 28 June).
Highlights of the summer include musical giants Alfred Brendel and Julian Lloyd Webber, jazz sensation Gregory Porter, the John Wilson Orchestra and folk star, Julie Fowlis.
The festival also features the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival which runs 2-5 July at the Crown Hotel. It stars a wealth of celebrity authors including Dom Joly, Jenny Ecclair, Bill Oddie, Noddy Holder, Edith Bowman, Dennis Skinner, Richard and Judy, Matt Haig, Louis de Bernieres and Joanne Harris.
From July 16 to 19 the Old Swan Hotel will hose the world famous Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival with Special Guests Lee Child, Rory Bremner, Mark Billingham, Eddie Izzard, Ann Cleeves, Lisa Gardner, Val McDermid, Sally Wainwright, Sara Paretsky, MC Beaton and Arnaldur Indridason.
