This Saturday sees the launch of what promises to be Harrogate’s biggest blockbuster art exhibition for years.
Art and Yorkshire: From Turner To Hockney, which will run from April 12 to October 12, is a fortunate spin-off of the county’s build-up to the Tour de France this summer.
Part of the 100-day cultural event known as The Yorkshire Festival, this major show at Mercer Art Gallery promise a field day for fans of Hockney - and anyone else who’s ever produced great art in or about Yorkshire.
Under the stewardship of the gallery’s curator Jane Sellars, more than 100 paintings, photographs and sculptures will be on show at the Mercer.
The exhibition also includes work by JMW Turner, John Piper, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Atkinson Grimshaw plus more recent work by Tom Wood and Myles Linley.
