Wetherby RUFC head coach Mike Hicks says his side will be ‘absolutely ready’ for what he calls their ‘biggest test of the season’.
The table-toppers will be putting their remarkable 43-game unbeaten run on the line at second-placed Thornensians, who have won five from five on home turf this year.
“These are the games we really relish” he said.
“We play at our best when we’re under pressure and the game can’t come quick enough for us.
“It will be our biggest test of the season, without doubt, but we’re confident.
“We feel absolutely ready for the test.”
And Hicks has good reason to be confident, with plenty of similar experiences to call upon.
He added: “We came across Thornes in the Cup last year when we were in the division below and they were going well in this division, but we went away and beat them 29-10 in appalling conditions, so it’s up to us to do it again.”
And the last time Wetherby faced second-placed league opponents, they thrashed Goole 36-11 away from home.
“Our game management has been superb this year” Hicks continued.
“Last year we were were able to play cavalier rugby, but it’s just about getting the job done now.”
