Earlier this year, Look North Yorkshire presenters Harry Gration and Amy Garcia pedalled a tandem hundreds of miles along the route of Yorkshire’s Tour de France Grand Depart raising over £140,000 for BBC Sport Relief.

Caryl said: “When I first heard that Harrogate was to host the Tour I decided I wanted contribute something that would be a permanent reminder of this fantastic spectacle.

“When I first approached Harrogate Borough Council with the idea, I had just a couple of requests.

“First, that the work would need to be lit well to highlight the detail of the piece and, secondly, that it should be located where many people will get the chance to see and enjoy it.”

Councillor Phil Ireland, Harrogate borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and External Affairs, said: “We are extremely grateful to Caryl for this beautiful contribution.

“It is simply stunning. We have placed it in a Yorkshire stone surround which nicely links to Harrogate’s architecture and, of course, the Yorkshire Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France.

“The surround, created by local firm Mulbrand, has added to the grandeur of the art installation.

“The council’s Parks Team has worked with Caryl to make sure the lighting is right to make the most of this unique creation.

“And it has been located in the gardens at the top of Montpellier Hill which is a busy and prominent location.

“It is also in sight of the Tour’s stage one finish on 5 July on West Park, what a terrific reminder.”
