Smad Place was a decisive winner of last week’s Hennessy Gold Cup and is now only 10/1 to win the Cheltenham equivalent next March.

If he jumps like he did on Saturday then he will certainly make his presence felt.

Smad Place was tipped up in this column as was Cue Card in the feature race on the previous week.

In an attempt to record a hat-trick of big race winning tips I am going for Vibrato Valtat in the Tingle Creek at Sandown on Saturday.

He will have his work cut out to beat the Irish hotpot Un De Sceaux but if he is ever going to get the better of Willie Mullin’s star then this could be the day.

Wetherby stage their popular Totepool Christmas Carol meeting on Saturday.

Malton trainer Malcolm Jefferson has had 16 winners so far this season and is well on track for his best year ever.

He could run Grey Life in the 2 mile chase in an attempt to improve on his second place at the track last month.

His rider dropped his whip that day and he meets the winner on 9lb better terms so looks to have a great chance.

The Cobbler Swayne won on his chasing debut but more importantly won a point to point in Ireland over three miles on heavy ground.

He can make his stamina pay in the Novice chase on the Wetherby card.

The big Aintree fences are in use again with two competitive chases featured on a great card.

Dolatulo won the Rowland Meryck Chase at Wetherby and has jumped these fences twice before and should run well at a big price in the Becher Chase.

Double Ross is another with experience of these unique fences having been placed in a Topham Chase.

His fourth in the Paddy Power Chase is the best form of those in the Grand Sefton and his rider Sam Twiston-Davies, excels at Aintree.
