Nicola Wilson has received her call-up for Great Britain’s senior eventing team and will form part of the six-strong squad aiming to win its ninth consecutive team gold medal at next month’s European Eventing Championships, at Luhmühlen, Germany (August 25-28).
Northallerton-based Wilson, 34, has been Britain’s pathfinder for the past two years with Rosemary Search’s Opposition Buzz, leading the British team to team gold medals at the 2009 Fontainebleau European Championships at last year’s World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky.
Wilson said: “I was over the moon to receive the call-up. The first step of the process has begun and it is so exciting to think that in less than six weeks, all being well, we will be heading to Germany for the Europeans. I am so pleased that we have been selected as Opposition Buzz has been such a consistent horse. It’s just lovely for our whole support team at home.”
Wilson will be joined in Luhmühlen by her some of her team-mates from last year’s WEG; William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Piggy French.
Polly Stockton makes her return to the squad after a six-year absence, while 21-year-old rising star Laura Collett earns her first senior stripes.
