Munro secures new best against the world’s top distance stars

Wetherby Runners’ Pauline Munro lined up with some of the biggest stars of the athletics world in Manchester last week for the Great Manchester Run 10K.

Munro had been selected to join the Elite Ladies race field which included three times Olympic Champion Tirunesh Dibaba and team GB runner Gemma Steel.

The 44-year-old found her best form yet in fine conditions on this ‘out and back’ course, clocking a 5k split time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds before overhauling several runners to finish in a new personal best 35.04.

She ended up in 12th position and sixth of the British competitors.

At the second race of the Harrogate & District Race League, Wetherby were out to reinforce the positive start they made in the league the previous week.

The Men’s Veterans team did just that with strong performances from the Over 40s, ensuring another first place.

The Ladies Open team dropped a place to second, also losing their hold on first place in the consolidated scores while the lady veterans held fourth place.

The main team of 10 headed by Ben Pye had an excellent result on the day in second position and they narrowed the gap on the two leading clubs.
