Yorkshire has nine racecourses, more than twice as many as any other county in the country.

Six of these courses are in action over the next seven days and we are really blessed to have access to such great equine entertainment.

Wetherby starts the ball rolling on Thursday with a great National Hunt fixture. Rose Dobbin could send Robin’s Command down from her Northumbrian yard.

This grey gelding does most of his winning in the summer months and has dropped in the weights to a winning mark.

Pontefract stages one of their popular Friday evening fixtures but the meeting I am most looking forward to is Beverley on Saturday. This go-ahead course stage two great two-year-old races that used to be hidden in a mid-week fixture. Both races are deserved of a prestigious weekend billing as both are seen as great trials for the juvenile races at Royal Ascot in June.

The Hilary Needler Trophy usually attracts fillies bound for the Queen Mary at Ascot and this year’s race looks top class. Richard Fahey has two entered and I hope he runs Kept Under Wraps. This filly had a pleasing debut win at Nottingham beating a horse that ran well at York last week. Her stablemate, Holy Grail, would be tip if my selection is indeed ‘kept under wraps’ for a later assignment.

The colts have their turn in the Brian Yeardley Two Year Old Trophy where I fancy Furiant may be the one to be on. Furiant holds an entry at Bath on Friday and if he goes south then Richard Fahey’s Lathom will do for me.

The Grey Gatsby was voted the Yorkshire racehorse of the year in 2014 and he is set to make his reappearance at the Curragh on Sunday. Ryan Moore gave him a spin on the Knavesmire last week and he is free to ride him which is a massive plus.
