Harrogate Town have signed former Leeds United midfielder Simon Lenighan.
Lenighan, who has previously played at Town’s neighbours Harrogate Railway, was released by United at the end of last season.
The 20-year-old had previously captained the Championship outfit’s youth team.
The central midfielder spent time on loan at Conference North rivals Bradford Park Avenue and Conference Premier outfit FC Halifax Town last season.
Town manager Simon Weaver said: “He’s an athletic midfielder.
“He has a lot of potential and he’s another one I hope will develop. He’s another athlete in the middle of the park. He plays predominantly in a defensive capacity.”
Lenighan is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on September 1 facing three charges of rape and one of perverting the course of justice.
Town are expected to announce another midfield signing tomorrow, which is likely to culminate Weaver’s summer recruitment.
