EE customers will get six months of free Britbox - here’s how

EE customers are in for a treat this spring with six months of British streaming service Britbox coming their way.

Britbox is one of many new services which - along with the likes of Apple TV and Disney+ - is looking to cut in on Netflix’s domination of the streaming market.

However, unlike the others, it specialises in providing only the best British television available.

What is Britbox?

After decades of competing for the attention of television audiences, BBC and ITV have come together to create a new service for a new era of viewing – Britbox.

It launched on November 7 2019, charging a monthly subscription fee at roughly the same price as Netflix, with a 30-day free trial on offer for new members.

The app works on smart TVs, laptops, tablets and phones.

The UK-based streaming service offers the biggest collection of British TV to ever be made available in one place.

There are decades worth of shows from all of their channels - as well as some from channels 4 and 5.

What shows does Britbox have?

Boxsets of fan favourites like Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Gavin & Stacey and The Office will be available via the UK streaming service. In some cases, like with classic episodes of Doctor Who, Britbox is the only place they can be streamed.

For those of a slightly more retro inclination, old-school shows like Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers and the original House of Cards are available via Britbox.

All 20 series of Midsomer Murders will also be appearing, as well as two never-before-seen episodes, which will be making their world premiere.

Britbox will also be incorporating Channel 4’s catch-up service, All4, in the spring of 2020 – meaning brand new series will become available 31 days after their final episodes first air.

For movie fans, Film4 content is also scheduled to begin arriving on Britbox at some point later in the year.

Just like Netflix, Britbox will also be commissioning brand new shows of its own with the hope of creating the next generation of hit British shows.

How does the deal work?

All EE pay-monthly mobile and tablet subscribers will receive a six-month subscription to Britbox at no charge whatsoever.

This is the latest entertainment service EE have made available to customers via their Entertainment on EE setup, which includes BT Sport, Apple Music, Apple News+ and MTV Play.

Best of all, using the service won’t even impact your data allowance, so free really does mean free.

The deal can also be used to watch Britbox content on any compatible device, so customers can boot up Downton Abbey on phones, laptops or TVs.

Once the six-month trial is over, if you like what you’ve seen from the British streaming service, you can continue subscribing to it for £5.99 a month.

When will it be available?

The Britbox deal will be available from Friday 13 March 2020. For full details, visit the EE website.
