Shortly before 3am on Thursday October 10, police were called to the A58 Wetherby Road at Scarcroft, between Carr Lane and Ling Lane, where a BMW X5 had left the carriageway on a right-hand bend and collided with a tree before going down an embankment into a field.

Police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene and the occupants of the vehicle - two men and three women - were removed from the vehicle and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

A 28-year-old man, from Leeds, is currently in a critical condition. A 23-year-old man was seriously injured but is in a stable condition. Two women, aged 31 and 36, received minor injuries.

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The vehicle was travelling towards Wetherby at the time of the incident.

The road reopened at about 8.30am.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could help the investigation is asked to contact the Eastern Area Roads Policing Unit at Killingbeck police station via the non-emergency number 101.
