Flooding in Wetherby

Flooding is affecting Wetherby and Collingham following rainfall associated with Storm Ciara.

The Ings, Wetherby Tennis Club and riverside walks are under water.

Flood warnings have this morning been issued for Collingham Beck where the Environment Agency said that flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

“This flood warning remains in force for Collingham Beck at Collingham due to heavy rain associated with Storm Ciara,” said a spokesman.

“River levels are expected to remain high along most of the River Wharfe catchment and begin falling today.”

Despite flooding on The Ings affecting sports fixtures, Wetherby Sports Association said that its club house would be open as normal this week.

A spokesman urged: “Please support us while there are no games (no income) by coming down and having a drink in the bar.

“It’s open from 6pm every evening and this Friday is our monthly quiz night.”

They added: “We will update on fixtures when we next see the grass.”

And the River Nidd at Husingore and Cattal is in flood warning with immediation action required.

Just before 7am Environment Agency reported that the river levels were at 2.6m at Hunsingore and had peaked and were forecast to continue falling through Monday.

“River levels are expected to remain high along most of the River Nidd,” said a spokesman.

“Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.”
