George Bass, 77, was reported missing on Wednesday March 2 but has since been sighted a number of times on CCTV in the Leeds and York areas.

Now police say a man matching his description was pictured on CCTV leaving the Tesco store at Askham Bryan in York, just after 2pm on Thursday March 10.

Inspector Alex Langley of Harrogate police, said: “I would like to reiterate my appeal to hoteliers, guest house owners and members of the public, particularly in York and Leeds, to let us know if you believe you have seen George or know where he is now.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image, or was in the area at the time and can assist the enquiry, is asked to contact police.

George is described as white, 5ft 6in tall with white receding hair, hazel eyes and a pale complexion.

He has a habit of clenching his hands when he walks. When he is not wearing gloves he has a habit of touching each finger in turn to his thumb, as if he’s counting.

Anyone with information about George Bass is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room, or you can contact the missing people charity on 116000.
