The family of a Tadcaster woman who died in an accident near Castle Howard have paid tribute to her.
Valerie Clarke, aged 68, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened on a minor road at around 9.45pm on Monday May 4.
North Yorkshire Police are investigating the circumstances which saw a silver Volkswagen Touran collide with a stone archway on a public road that runs through the estate.
Valerie’s family have released the following statement: “Our dear wife, mum, grandma and great friend, we have all been left devastated.
“Please give us respect at this time.”
Senior investigating officer Traffic Constable Mark Hutchings, of the Major Collision Investigation Team, said: “If you witnessed the incident, or saw the silver VW Touran involved prior to the collision, and have not already spoken to the police, please contact me as you may have important information that could assist the investigation.”
