Work on Thorp Arch bridge

Work has started on Thorp Arch Bridge this week.

Leeds City Council said that contractors Bam Nuttall will carry out scour protection work around the footings to prevent potential damage being caused to the bridge in the future.

“We are doing this using a combination of structural protection methods and materials,” said a council spokesman.

“We will be accessing the bridge footings by creating a temporary shallow causeway for construction vehicles to travel on and create a dry working area.”

The work, taking place 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, will be done in phases and is expected to be completed in September.
