A64 Tadcaster reopens after crane fire

Highways bosses have said that the A64 near Tadcaster is now fully open after a huge crane fire closed it yesterday.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: “The removal of the 100-tonne crane took place last night, and resurfacing and repairs took place throughout the night into the early hours with the road fully open around 3.15am today.”

Yesterday morning, traffic on the major route was brought to a standstill in both directions as emergency services battled to bring the blaze under control.

The Eastbound carriageway between the A659 junction, near junction 44 to the A659 junction at Islington, remained closed until this morning and drivers were advised to plan ahead and allow extra journey time.

Diversions took eastbound traffic along the A659 through Tadcaster to re-join the A64 past the incident.
