Tragedy as teenager dies at Leeds Fest

A teenage guitarist who was about to go to university has died after collapsing on the final night of the Leeds Festival.

James Houghton, 19, from Hartlepool, had travelled to the event with friends.

Police are investigating the unexplained death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said local officers informed his family of the death.

The 19-year-old was taken to the site’s medical facility but despite the efforts of medics, police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The festival saw crowds of up to 70,000 music lovers descend on the district for the three day event.

This years festival, the tenth to be held at Bramham Park near Wetherby, was plagued by rain and mudleading to heavy traffic and treacherous road conditions.

A major clean up operation for the roads around the areas of Bramham and Thorner was organised on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Organisers have also confirmed that a baby was born at the event over the weekend.
