Tickets have gone on sale for the tenth Thorner Comedy Festival.

And organiser Alex Foster predicts another sell out success as the line-up promises international award-winning comics with a string of TV and radio appearances in their credits.

Alex said: “With help from Festival Republic, the Leeds Festival organisers, we’ve been able to attract top-class comedians to the Thorner stage.

“In the early days we prayed for good weather because the hall roof was leaking badly, but now we can put on a show in what must be one of the best village halls in Yorkshire.”

Alex added: “Any comedy fan who is a regular watcher of Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, Russell Howard’s Good News, or Live At the Apollo will be familiar with the names.”

The festival sprang from a night of comedy staged by a few Thorner residents in 2005 to help raise funds to refurbish the ageing village hall.

“Little did they know that the event would become an annual Festival of Comedy with a reputation that sells tickets even before the line-up is finalised,” added Alex.

Former rising stars have included Alan Carr, Russell Howard and Michael McIntyre who have helped to raise the roof at the Victory Hall.

As a result of the Festival and other fundraising efforts and grants, the building is now transformed but development work continues to further improvements.
