Shadwell History Society: following the very successful talk about Roundhay Park the history society have organised another history talk. The talk is to be given by Dr Sylvia Pinkney and her subject is Lady Elizabeth Hastings, a local benefactor during the 18th Century. Lady Elizabeth owned most of the land in Shadwell and the surrounding villages and much of this land is still owned by the Lady Elizabeth Hastings Trust. Dr Pinkney is a member of East Keswick History Society and is very well known for her research and articles on Lady Elizabeth. She has also written a booklet on Lady Elizabeth and this will be on sale at the event. The talk is to be held in Shadwell’s Independent Library on Tuesday, May 28 at 7.30pm. Entrance is £2.50 and this includes tea or coffee. All are welcome however if you will be going to the talk please let Denise Trickett know, telephone number 0113 2737250 or email on

Shadwell Village Hall: the next village hall quiz will be held on Friday, May 31 at 7.30pm in the village hall. Entrance is £4 and this includes a light supper. Please bring your own drinks. Although the organisers try to limit the teams to six this doesn’t always work out and sometimes seven or eight are in a team. If you cannot muster six friends to come to the quiz don’t let it stop you from joining in the fun everyone is welcome. Especially the eggheads out there, they can join my team!
