Shadwell Horticultural Society: the Horticultural society had quite a successful coffee morning despite the rain in July. The coffee morning was held at the home of the Society President, Mr Wooller, entrance to the coffee morning was a tombola gift for the Flower Show. The next big event is the Annual Village Flower, Vegetable and Craft Show to be held on Saturday, August 18, the show is held on the Primary School Playing Fields from 1.30pm until 4.30pm. This is the 66th Show and is one of the few tented village shows still being held every year. Entry fee is £6 for adults, £5 seniors and £2 children; entry is free to Members of the Society. The show is to be opened this year by the Horticultural Advisor, Martin Walker and he will present the prizes at the end of the Show. There will also be the usual auction of produce at 4.30pm. As well as the displays of exhibits there are several other attractions these include, a bouncy castle for the children and a children’s entertainer plus the popular face painting. For the grown-ups there is a bar and tea tent and music will be provided throughout the afternoon by the Chris White Jazz Trio. There is limited parking on the field and in the village hall car park. The School is in Main Street opposite St. Paul’s Church and there is a bus stop nearby. Come along and enjoy a traditional family flower show.
Yorkshire Courtrywomen’s Association Garden Party: instead of the August meeting the YCA are having a garden party on Friday, August 10, at the home of Gloria and John Ford, Shadwell Grange Farm. The garden party is from 2-4pm. Tickets are now available from any committee member for £2.50, this includes strawberries, scones, tea and cake. There will be a raffle, gift stall, book stall, cake stall and £1 gift parcel stall. Everyone is welcome but members of the YCA are reminded there is no evening meeting in August.
