St. Paul’s Church: the Mayfest committee held the church Christmas party on Sunday, December 8 in the village hall. This event was very well attended with 71 adults and 16 children which gave it a very happy family atmosphere. The afternoon started with a first class entertainment given by Magic Circle members, magicians Mark and Philip. The children really enjoyed the tricks and there was quite a lot of good natured interference from the children and the adults were entertained by the comments from the children even to the point of one little girl telling the magicians what to do next because she “had a magic set at home”. Lunch was then served starting with a delicious carrot and coriander soup made by the ladies which was followed by a cold buffet and super desserts. During the meal the magicians entertained the guests at their tables with card and magic tricks and even at such close quarters no-one could see how they did the tricks. After lunch when everyone was fed and satisfied the annual prize draw was drawn and prizes given out. The highlight of the afternoon for the children was the arrival of Santa and he had a gift for each child. Sandra and Christine had organised games for the children but quite a few of the parents and grandparents joined in and the rest of the audience shouted their support. The afternoon ended with carol singing. The whole event was a lovely family afternoon and enjoyed by everyone this was the first church family party for a long time but it will not be the last.
