Scholes gets fit for fun

Scholes celebrated its annual gala on last Saturday with a theme of Get Fit for Fun.

The aim of the event is to raise funds for the general maintenance and operating costs of Scholes village hall.

Andrew Saxton, retired Church Warden at St Phillips and who has lived in the village for over 45 years, opened the gala.

For the first time ever Scholes also had a Gala King, Theo Ward, as well as the traditional gala Queen, Livedeep Mattharu, with William Watkinson and Lucas McQueen as Beefeaters and Gaia McLaughlin and Isla Guntree as Attendants, all pupils from Scholes Primary School. The Gala King and Queen toured the village. Other children in the village were presented with prizes as winners of competitions; the Short Story and Design a Fitness Park which were sponsored by WH Brown Estate Agents Crossgates.

As well as the various stalls, entertainment was provided by Boston Spa School Soul Band, Gawthorpe Junior Brass Band, Scholes Skipping Club, Dance Floor 54 and Scholes School Wake-Up Shake-up Crew.

Scholes Scout Group were also raising funds for the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia in 2019.
