She is a magistrate and has a wide experience of administration managing budgets and public affairs. We wish her all the best as parish clerk and hope she finds the work enjoyable and satisfying.

Scarcroft Ladies Luncheon Club: 2013 got off to a good New Year start with the January lunch at the village hall. Judith Oxer introduced the speaker Coldogh Tweedale whose subject was Calling Cards along with slides. It was very formal in those Victorian days. She talked about a few, some had your name on and men carried them in their pocket, most left their cards out on the mantle and visiting time was two - four hours, no longer. Visiting cards for condolence where black, the cards for ladies had narrow edging, those for men wide. To visit someone who was ill you would turn up the bottom corner card. She bought along examples of the cards that were in use in those days. Ivory, tortoiseshell, snake skin, and Sheffield steel, sandal wood ,mother of pearl. These are now very collectable and command good prices at auctions. Margaret Midgley gave a vote of thanks. Next lunch Monday, February 4 at noon.
