The village hanging baskets: along the A58 have now been taken down. Considering the appalling wet weather during the summer, the patriotic red, white and blue petunias still put on a good show, although not included in Britain in Bloom judging, brightening the village. Thanks to the sponsors, the Parish Council and Leeds Parks and Countryside for the supply and maintenance.

Scarcroft and District Ploughing Society: This years ploughing match at Sweep Farm, Wetherby, normally held at the end of October has had to be moved on because of a shortage of ploughing judges due to a lot of matches on at that time. The new date is Sunday, November 11 at Sweep Farm. Details 0113 2860872.

This years Scarcroft pre Christmas break: is to Tenby, South Wales. Thursday, November 29 to December 3.
