Over 100 runners battled the blistering heat to complete the third Bramham 10k last Sunday.
The undulating and multi terrain course, starting and finishing at Bramham’s Playing Field, provided challenging conditions.
Despite this the first man home, John Wills of Leeds AC, shaved 33 seconds off his winning time last year, to set a new course record of 35 minutes and 16 seconds.
The first female finisher was Nicky Andrews of Wetherby Runners, in an impressive 45 minutes and 04 seconds.
A spokesman for the event said: “Competitors included runners of all levels.
“It’s such a fun and friendly event that everyone feels welcome, and all of those who work hard to stage the event were delighted to hear how much everyone enjoyed it.
“A hose pipe at one of the water stations for a cooling spray was a welcome addition!”
Bramham’s very own local sportsman Rich Beck of Yorkshire Carnegie was present to hand out sparkling prizes donated by The Passion Group.
Medals were donated by 2h Storage Solutions, hi viz by APC clothing, and drinks by Sainsbury’s at Tadcaster, all local sponsors.
Tadcaster Tri Club and Otley RC helped with loan of equipment to give the run a ‘professional’ look.
To make it a real family day, Friends of Bramham School put on an exciting Fun Run and obstacle course for the children complete with hay bales and water spray.
Over 90 children entered and completed as many laps as they could in 30 minutes.
The spokesman added: “Proceeds of the 10k will be an enormous help towards maintaining Bramham Pavilion, but most of all we’re delighted to have created a fantastic village event.
“It was a very special day for Bramham, and we’ll be back next year.”
