The motorcyclist who had to be airlifed to hospital from Skipton Road yesterday afternoon (March 31) said he ‘nearly died’ in the horrific crash.

Israar Yapp, 28, was travelling from New Park roundabout up Skipton Road when he crashed his silver 500cc Kawasaki, into a grey Volvo XC90.

The motorcyclist left the road and collided with a parked Citroen Berlingo van, suffering serious injuries to his wrist and pelvis.

Israar, from Ripon, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) for treatment.

Whilst at the LGI, Israar released a picture of himself on a hospital trolley wearing a neck brace with the caption ‘I nearly died’.

Speaking to the Harrogate Advertiser, Israar revealed he was 'still in agony', but paid tribute to everyone who came to his aid during his traumatic accident.

He said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone that was involved last night during the accident, including the paramedics, police officers and air ambulance crew.

“They did a fantastic job at keeping me at ease and getting me to the hospital as soon as possible.

“I also want to say a big thank you to the member of the public on the push bike that was the first on the scene. I also want to thank everyone for their kind messages, it means a lot.”

Israar told friends on Facebook that he was now out of the resuscitation area but spent the night in the Clinical Decisions Unit.

He explained that his pelvis hadn’t been broken in the crash but was waiting for a consultation with a surgeon on how they would like to proceed.

The 44-year-old female driver of the Volvo was shaken but otherwise uninjured and police are now appealing for information and witnesses of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the Volvo or Kawasaki Motorcycle prior to the collision, is asked to contact police.
