A big thankyou to the organisers of Belper Oxfam’s superb inaugural Oxfam Poetry Evening event on November 19. Poets Jane Weir and Tom Weir (happy coincidence, not related...) read from their collections as the rest of us sat back, relaxed and enjoyed a glass of wine in the bookshop. The atmosphere was friendly and easygoing, with opportunities to buy books from Oxfam’s collection and chat informally between and after readings.
Here’s looking forward to the next Oxfam Poetry evening on Thursday, January 15, with the winner of the Aldebugh Poetry Award, Derbyshire poet laureate, Helen Mort.
Former poet in residence at Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, Helen Mort’s work is described as having “an elegaic quality” by The Guardian.
Thanks again and keep the wine and poems flowing, Belper Oxfam.
