Wishing well feeds foodbanks

The club has announced that its Wishing Well on Waterside has generated £652, between Christmas and Easter, to support local foodbanks.

In addition, £3,150 has already been passed to the foodbanks by the Rotarians making a total of £3,802 since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

Rev Stroma McDermott sent a message of thanks to the Knaresborough club: “Bless you, that’s wonderful news.

“How kind of the Rotarians to think of the Foodbank again and to be so generous.” 

Rev McDermott reported: “Since I spoke in February, there have been some major new developments for the Foodbank.

“A new Foodbank has opened up on a Thursday in Starbeck and the Knaresborough Foodbank has moved from a Monday morning to a Friday morning to allow more people to get their referral when agencies are open during the week, so we expect more clients. So, your gift is so timely.”  

Michelle Hayes from Resurrected Bites wrote: “Please pass on our thanks to Rotary Club of Knaresborough, your financial donations are such a huge support to Resurrected Bites.”

Throughout the pandemic Knaresborough Rotarians have been meeting online with weekly Zoom meetings as they continue to support the local community.

Some Rotarians have volunteered as stewards at the Yorkshire Showground Vaccination Centre.

A Rotary club spokesman said it was a privilege to help and added: “To see the visible relief experienced by our more elderly or vulnerable visitors who have been housebound for months makes it all worthwhile.”

Recently Rotarian Mike Wilkins delivered 1,500 masks to nine schools and a total of 40 laptops have been donated to six local schools.

Rotary spokesman, Brian Souter, said: “Over the last year many people have found that voluntary work in our communities has been very rewarding.

“We hope that some will consider joining Rotary in Knaresborough and help sustain its 59 year legacy of service to the community.”
