Summer of play plan
A summer of play is being encouraged in Ripon as the nation slowly eases out of Covid-19 restrictions.
Ripon Together is planning a programme of co-ordinated, free events introducing sports and activities to children with the aim to get them out again after lockdown.
Director of the Community Interest group, The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Reverend John Dobson said: “Lockdown has been very difficult for many members of our community, including children.
“David Ingham has contacted lots of local organisations and got a very positive response.
“We now just need a meeting with them all to batten that down as a firm programme.”
Ripon Together is holding a Zoom meeting on Wednesday May 12 at 7pm for organisations to get involved.
Simon Hewitt, a Director of Ripon Together Board, said: “We are excited by the response we have had and if we can get local organisations and clubs along to that meeting we think we can get a great programme together for our youngsters.”
Ripon Together is also launching a community calendar of events, at the request of the City Council.
Local people and visitors, will be able to find out about local events or meetings in one place.
The Dean added: “Ripon is a brilliant and vibrant place with lots going on, but people find they miss out on things they would have liked to get to.
“If all local groups put their events on the community calendar they will get more people there and they, the city and its people will all benefit.”
