Elderly residents take ‘flight’ to Italy

Residents at Thistle Hill home in Knaresborough travelled to Italy as party of Italian National Day.

But the senior citizens escaped the travel chaos surrounding Covid regulations as they departed on a virtual plane ride from the lounge area.

“Using our latest technology a flight simulator was set up via our big screen projector as our residents were thrilled at being able to take in turns to fly the plane,” said a spokesman for the home.

“Upon arrival our residents enjoyed touring and learning about the national monuments in Italy using google maps, the internet, and virtual tours via our projector and big screen.

“They saw highlights of the country known for its beautiful architecture and stunning scenery such as the canals of Venice, from the comfort of their own armchairs.”

Taking advantage of the warm weather the gardens were decorated by staff with flags, bunting, photos, and summer decorations to further transport the residents to their Italian location.

Residents and staff got together for a themed lunch especially prepared by the homes hospitality team and were served in-flight refreshments and snacks as the homes activity coordinator, Mark also dressed for the occasion.
