Carehome residents celebrate

Knaresborough carehome residents turned back the clock to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Thistle Hill held a street party with music ranging from all-time favorites by Vera Lynn and the D-Day Darlings, followed by afternoon tea.

Mark Shelton, who is the Memory Lane activities coordinator said: “What a brilliant day.

“It was a fabulous team effort from myself and my colleagues who put on a great show for our residents.

“It was lovely to see our residents enjoying themselves and being full of smiles and laughter.”

Kitchen staff supplied the party with scones and cream and Victoria sponge cake.

A carehome spokesman added: “Residents wore hats and waved their flags while tapping away and singing to their favorite songs with our colleagues who were dressed up in war time attire.

“Some of the residents were reminiscing back to their childhoods and talking about their mothers and fathers being in the war.

“Our staff and residents had a good old knees-up and dance.”
