THE first section of the new A1(M) in North Yorkshire has opened six months ahead of schedule.
The 2.3-mile stretch between Dishforth (junction 49) and Baldersby (junction 50), which has been upgraded from a dual carriageway to a three-lane motorway, opened on Thursday last week.
Work on the upgrade between Baldersby and Leeming, a distance of 9.7 miles, continues.
Highways Agency project manager David Brindle said: “We are pleased to be opening this first section six months earlier than planned. Work to complete the remaining sections remains on target for spring 2012.”
