Parking restrictions to be put in place

New parking restrictions will help clamp down on “inconsiderate” motorists who have been obstructing the flow of traffic over a bridge.

The new ‘No Waiting’ signs will be erected at various points on Bridge Road, Boston Spa.

Concerns were raised about parked cars affecting the “give and take” system operating on the bridge, with vehicles parked on either side making the road too narrow for free movement of traffic.

A report just approved by Leeds City council officers says: “The parking that takes place on Bridge Road is proving a danger to road users as it takes up space on the road to allow the free flow of two way traffic exiting the single file bridge.”

Earlier this month Wetherby’s The Dog Walker owner Richie Womersley witnessed a collision along the stretch of road when a bus was forced into a parked car by an oncoming car.

A regular user of routes in the village, he told the News: “It has been a problem for years.

“I feel for the residents along there who need to park outside their homes but something needed to be done about getting parking restrictions put in place.

“People are coming and parking over the bridge and up along the road.

“Parking in Boston Spa is getting a bit ridiculous.

“Some drivers don’t have sense or patience.”

New restrictions will also be put on School Lane, Collingham after cars were found to be obstructing emergency vehicles and cars going in and out of Church View Surgery.
