A long-standing member of Tockwith and District Agricultural Society has been chosen as the organisation’s new president.

Sarah Burckhardt served as a committee member director of Tockwith Show for many years, as well helping to run the very successful farmers’ market at the event.

She takes the crook from Stuart Coggrave, who led Tockwith Show through its 70th year and the many celebrations that took place.

He said: “I have had a wonderful year as president and was very honoured to be chosen for the role in the 70th anniversary year.

“I have enjoyed many different events and opportunities throughout this year, but the best part was Tockwith Show itself – I felt like king for a day.

“It was wonderful to meet all of the stallholders, competitors and visitors, and I only wish I had had two days to get around and see everyone.”

Incoming president Sarah Burckhardt was given the ceremonial crook by Stuart at the TADAS AGM.

Sarah said: “We’ve had a fantastic year celebrating the 70th anniversary, and now it’s time to look to the future.

“It’s going to be another busy and productive year, with Tockwith Show the highlight on Sunday, August 7. I can’t wait to get started.”

Her chosen charities will be Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Farming Community network, which offers support to farmers in times of need.

The first fundraising event will be a wine tasting evening at The Forge in Tockwith (behind the Spotted Ox) on Saturday, February 6.

During Stuart’s term as president, more than £3,000 was raised for cancer care charity Macmillan.

The 71st Tockwith Show will take place on Sunday, August 7, 2016. For more information, visit
