Martin House presents Centre Stage support your local talent and a great cause

Martin House fundraiser Centre stage – The Final, kicks off again this year at the O2 academy on July 19. Centre Stage was launched in 2009 by Pigeon Detectives and supported by the likes of The Klaxons, Embrace and The Cribs all recognising what an amazing opportunity this is as well as being a fantastic way to help raise money for Martin House Children’s hospice.

Last year proved a real success raising £35,000, giving the young bands the opportunity to perform on the same stage as their musical heroes at the O2 and the winners Penguin performing on the BBC introducing stage at Leeds Festival. Penguin, who were overwhelmed by the experience have recently released their first EP from ITunes. This years prize includes playing on the BBC Introducing stage at both Reading and Leeds Festival and professional recording studio sessions.

Local bands and artists from secondary schools and colleges competed in four heats this April and the final 12 will be battling it out at the O2 to win West Yorkshire’s most prestigious musical talent competition.

The event will continue to be judged by top industry professionals including Mike Heaton from Embrace he said ‘This is a tremendous opportunity for young bands and helps raise much needed money for Martin House, an amazing charity providing care and love for very poorly young children.’ He added ‘I was staggered by the results of last year’s competition and can’t wait to see what this year’s competition produces.’

Last year, over 1,000 people attended the final at the O2 Academy, with the bands living their dream on stage, giving the crowd a great show and raising lots of money for such a great cause!

Centre stage hopes to raise over £150,000 over three years for Martin House with Centre Stage and with your support this could be possible! Centre stage is open to all secondary schools and colleges across West Yorkshire for students aged 11-18. Tickets for this year’s event are available from and the band to bring the best support wins a day recording in Soundworks Studios, Leeds. Come down and support West Yorkshire’s fresh young talent all in aid of Martin House Hospice.
