Man dies in crash near Sherburn

Witnesses are being sought by police following a collision near Sherburn-In-Elmet in which a 19-year-old man has died.

The collision was reported at 2.47pm on Saturday 1 March 2014 and happened on the A1246 between Fairburn and the junction with the A63 near the Selby Fork Hotel.

A white, Bulgarian registered HGV being driven by a 56-year-old man from Bulgaria, was travelling towards Fairburn when it was in collision with a black Renault Clio travelling in the opposite direction.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The driver and sole occupant of the Clio, a 19-year-old man from the Leeds area, died form his injuries.

“And the driver of the HGV was taken to Pinderfields hospital with minor injuries.”

Police are appealing for witnesses, in particular, they would like to speak to the driver of a pale coloured or white car which was seen in the area at the time of the collision.

Officers would like to speak to the occupant as they may be a vital witness who could have information which could assist the investigation.

And officers would also like to hear from anyone else who was travelling along the same stretch of road in either direction and saw either vehicle prior to the crash, or who witnessed the actual collision.

Anyone who can help the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team.
