First Bus has today launched an appeal in the High Court against a ruling brought by Wetherby man Doug Paulley.
The wheelchair user won £5,500 after he missed a bus to Leeds station after a mother refused to move her pushchair as it would wake her baby and there was then no room for Mr Paulley.
The driver also refused to intervene because the company’s policy of first come, first served did not allow him to force a customer to give up the space.
In September 2013 a judge at Leeds Crown Court ruled that the incident was unlawful discrimination in breach of the Equality Act 2010 and ordered First Bus to change its policy.
First Bus are hoping to overturn the ruling this week.
