DANCING on Ice star Gaynor Faye will be heating up the action at Thorner tonight.
The former Coronation Street actress, scriptwriter and winner of the first Dancing on Ice series will launch the village firework festival by lighting the bonfire and firing off the first rockets.
Thorner’s bonfire builder William Heaton said: “Each year we aim to invite a celebrity to light the blue touch paper.
“Last year our local MP Alec Shelbrooke did a splendid job, and this year we’re delighted that Thorner resident Gaynor Faye has been able to find time to do the honours.”
Leeds born Gaynor played the role of Judy Mallett for four years in ITV’s Coronation Street, appeared in the stage version of Calendar Girls and from January next year will join the cast of Emmerdale as Megan Macey, but will take time out from her busy schedule to light up the skyline.
The event, on a field alongside the Thorner’s Victory Hall in Carr Lane, will start at 6.30pm with the bonfire lighting, and there’ll be fireworks at 7pm (specially for younger children) and at 8pm.
As well as traditional bonfire food, bbq and soup there’ll be a bar and soft drinks on sale.
Proceeds of the evening will go towards completing the external works need to finish off the ambitious Victory Hall refurbishment programme.
Admission on the night will be £7 for adults and £4 for children.
