Harrogate & District Volunteering Oscars are now in their 9th year.
They were created by Councillor John Fox in his Mayoral Year 2008/9 to recognise the wonderful work being undertaken by volunteers throughout the District by such a diverse group of people of all ages involved in a wide variety of activities. The Awards are supported by the Harrogate Advertiser series and the Harrogate & Ripon Centre for Voluntary Service.
Last year the Awards recognised Open Country as Organisation of the Year. Open Country has been helping disabled people in the Harrogate District to enjoy the countryside for over 25 years.

Volunteers perform tasks such as helping wheelchair users, guiding visually impaired people, mending bicycles and driving minibuses. In 2014 it helped 261 people enjoy a record 5,622 activity days. Its 75 volunteers help seven days a week.
