Have a heart and help form a new group in Wetherby

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is calling on the people of Wetherby to help speed up the fight against heart disease by forming a volunteering and fundraising group.

A prime example of the kind of help needed is Fiona Harris from Bramham who supports the charity across the area and has just completed a week of Pilates classes with all proceeds going to BHF.

Fiona said: “This year I am privileged to be the President for Tockwith & District Show. As part of the role I get to choose this year’s charity.

“I have chosen British Heart Foundation as 20 years ago my dad died of a heart attack shortly after being given a clean bill of health, aged 57.

“He was on holiday at the time and the difficulties we had getting him home, having to wait until he was home to arrange the funeral and supporting my mum after such a shock is something no-one should go through.

“I was still in my twenties, dad never met my husband or son and only met one of his five grandchildren and he was only six months old at the time.

“I’ve seen first-hand the research that British Heart Foundation are funding and I am truly amazing at the work they do. They are saving lives and continue to strive to save more.”
