Green Fairy helps Little Princess

A Green Fairy is helping a Little Princess by having her hair cut.

Georgina Thompson, who will play the role of the Green Fairy from the Rainbow Tribe in Tadcaster Theatre Company’s forthcoming production of Sleeping Beauty, has had her hair cut and is donating it to the Little Princess Trust.

“I decided I wanted to support a charity this year,” said Georgina, who is a Year 9 student at Tadcaster Grammar School.

“A few friends had previously had their hair cut for the Little Princess Trust and I thought this was a really worthy cause because it changes the life of a poorly child,” she added.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment. It was launched in 2006 by the parents of a young girl called Hannah who was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour and after a brave battle died in 2005.

At that time finding high quality wigs for children was very difficult.

Like so many Little Princesses, Hannah loved her hair and losing it was traumatic.

Georgina, who is now 13 years old, has not had her hair cut since the age of six.

She can understand how traumatic it would be for a young person who is already suffering illness to lose their hair as well.

“I really enjoy having long hair, but I know that my hair will grow again and by donating my locks to the Little Princess Trust I really can make a difference,” said Georgina, who had her hair cut by Tasha at Genesis Hair Design in Tadcaster.

“I would urge others to get their hair cut too and help give children extra confidence to face their illness and treatment,” she added.

Sponsorship plays a huge part too for the Little Princess Trust and Georgina has been raising much needed funds through sponsorship from her family, her friends at Tadcaster Grammar School and from other cast members at Tadcaster Theatre Company.

She has already raised more than £100, but if you would like to swell the funds you can do so by contacting the School or TTC.
