A Sicklinghall family will be on the run next month in the memory of a close friend.
Accountant Carole Reed will be joined by 55-year-old house builder husband John, trainee accountant son Matthew, 22, and student daughter Lorna, 20, for the 15th annual Bramham Park Fun Run on October 6.
“I have done the 10k for a few years but the reason the whole family is doing it is that we lost a close friend to cancer in May and wanted to run it to remember her,” said the 52-year-old mum.
“It will be the first time we have all done the 10k.
“Last year the other three did the 5k at Bramham.
“We will all be doing our bit and will need to up our pace this year.”
And Carole, who has recently joined Wetherby Runners after running for 10 years, added of the Bramham Fun Run: “It is a lovely event and so well organised.
“It is beautiful running through the park.
“There are people pushing buggies, running with dogs and of all levels of abilities.”
The Bramham Park Fun Run, sponsored by Wetherby-based estate agent Andrew Beadnall, last year raised £7,500 for Cancer Research UK and organisers are hoping to boost the cash this year.
As well as family groups, businesses are being challenged to get their staff into running shoes to raise vital funds to help beat cancer.
Andrew Beadnall said: “This is a great way to help build team spirit in a work place and at the same time for businesses to raise sponsorship from clients, customers, friends and family.
“Just as in other businesses we at Beadnalls have colleagues who have personally suffered and survived and sadly there are those among us who have lost loved ones to cancer.”
The cost of entry for next month’s event, which starts at 10.30am, is £8 for adults and £4.50 for children with families - a maximum of four - paying £19.50.
