Two students from Tadcaster Grammar School were guests at The Lord’s Taverners Spring Lunch - A Tribute to Andrew Strauss OBE held recently at the Nursery Pavilion, Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Charlotte Clayton and Hannah Wakeford were invited to the prestigious function as part of their prize for winning the Lord’s Taverners Get Playing Sport Award through the national PhoneBrain competition.
The Year 8 girls designed the best app to encourage young people to play sport and claimed top honours after battling it out with teams from across the UK.
As well as their invitation to the lunch the Year 8 girls also received £500 as an investment for the idea.
“The girls and I were privileged to meet and have photographs taken with Andrew Strauss and also had the opportunity to watch the England cricketers practising,” said Susy Laidlaw, Teacher of Business and Commercial Subjects: Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator for Year 9.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls and they truly deserve the prize for their efforts,” she added.
