Stutton and Tadcaster Women’s Institute were treated to a visit at Calcaria House from the “Mad Hatter” last week and her wonderful collection of special occasion headwear.

For milliner Liz Devine-Wright is the owner of the Simply Devine Hatshop in Tadcaster and was the guest speaker at their monthly meeting.

As it was Easter, Mrs Wright also judged the Easter Bonnet competition, which was won by Pat Overton, with runner-up Joan Horner, and third was Jean Hardy.

Mrs Wright showcased some of her Spring/Summer 2018 collection of mother of the bride/bridegroom, race day and special occasion hats, hatinators and fascinators, and explained the history of the shop.

She has been in business for 14 years selling from her premises in York Road, Tadcaster, but has just launched a new wholesale company selling to other boutiques, hat shops and hat hire businesses.

“The new range of hats are all designed by me – whereas before I used to buy from other wholesalers and traders,” said Mrs Wright.

“It is a way to grow the business and raise national and international awareness of the Simply Devine brand.”

Simply Devine headwear has appeared on heads throughout the world – with customers wearing their hats as far afield as the Kentucky Derby, at the Dubai Race Club, and even worn by pop star Christina Aguilera in the USA.

The shop also has a range of scarves, pashminas, winter woolly hats and gifts.

Kathleen Horner of the Stutton and Tadcaster WI paid tribute to Mrs Wright and said the members had enjoyed a wonderful evening, with many acting as models for the new range.
