Extensive work to Lotherton Hall has delayed the opening of a major new exhibition.
The Edwardian country house, once home to the Gascoigne family, was due to host an exhibition of women’s fashions from the fifties, from March 20 to December 31 but it will not now open until May 8.
A spokesman for operators Leeds City Council said: “Lotherton Hall is currently benefiting from an extensive refurbishment programme to ensure that as many visitors as possible enjoy better access to the house and improved facilities.
“This work includes the creation of the exciting new Fashion Galleries, which will host the major exhibition, Age of Glamour, in spring 2015.
“Due to the extent of the works and the care needed in an historic building like this, the exhibition will now open on Friday May 8 (private view May 7).
After refurbishment, Lotherton Hall will have a lift providing level access to all of the ground floor and most of the first, including the Fashion Galleries. There will also be new toilets, baby room and wi-fi.
