Gearing up for Christmas are staff at Wetherby’s Halifax branch.

Liz Weddall, Louise Shirley, Yvonne Longfellow, Phill Green, Alexis Westworth and Deb Hopwood will be doing a 50-mile charity bike ride dressed as Father Christmas around all the York Area Halifax Bank branches on December 12.

And the Wetherby team have also decided to run a cake day in the town hall on December 12 and there will be a welcoming committee to meet the bikers.

Liz Weddall Branch Manager said: “The day promises to be great fun and hard work for the Cycling Santas, but it is for such a worthy cause we are happy to do it as a team.

“All year myself and the Halifax team in Wetherby have been holding events to raise funds for Martin House and this is the final event for 2013.

“We are hopeful of getting to £10,000 but need some more generous sponsors.”

Anyone who would like to donate can go to and search “Cycling Santas” or pop into Halifax Wetherby branch in the Market Place.

The team hope to tally up the cash on the day as they collect it up, and then hand a large cheque to Martin House Hospice about 5pm.
