Wetherby artists display work in town exhibition

Budding artists displayed their own collections of work at an Open Art Exhibition in Wetherby recently.

A number of designs were for sale including a large number from local artists such as Sandra Dean and Gillian Roberts.

More than 150 people attended the second exhibition which took place at Wetherby Methodist Church.

Organiser and Wetherby church member Mary Bentham said: “The main idea here was not to make money, but to give local artists a place to show their work.

“We have a lot of good artists in Wetherby and a lot of those who took part in the exhibition last year have returned this year which is good, we are hoping to continue the art exhibition next year too.

“We had a good turn out but because the weather was so hot I think a few people decided to stay away in the sunshine.”

As well as paintings, a number of stalls displayed textiles work and jewellery ,with refreshments available for those browsing and buying.

A preview evening was held displaying work on Friday July 12.

Proceeds raised from the exhibition - which currently stand at a total of £650 - will go towards the Reaching Out Further Fund and special needs arts charities.

The Reaching Out Further Fund helps fund building work and repairs at Wetherby Methodist Church. Information from www.wetherbymethodist.org.uk.
